The Colditz Cock is one of the most extraordinary aircraft ever conceived—not for its performance, but for the circumstances of its creation. Designed and hand-built by British prisoners of war inside Colditz Castle during WWII, this wooden glider was to be their silent escape to freedom. Hidden in an attic workshop, constructed from stolen bed slats, floorboards, mattress covers, and anything else they could quietly repurpose, it was a triumph of engineering under unimaginable pressure.

The war ended before the glider could fly, and it never took to the air—but its story endures as a remarkable testament to human creativity, courage, and the sheer will to survive.

In Microsoft Flight Simulator, the Colditz Cock is reimagined as it might have flown had history allowed. Every surface is handcrafted with respect for the original design, from the makeshift materials to the minimalist controls. Flight dynamics have been carefully interpreted from historical documents and modern recreations, offering a glimpse into how this clandestine machine could have performed in the skies above Saxony.

More than an aircraft, the Colditz Cock is a story brought to life—a symbolic flight that was never given the chance to happen.
